How to Q-Drop a Course

description of what a Q-drop is and how to get one

What is a Q-drop?

Students may drop a course without penalty (of a failing grade) up to 3 times. The course appears on your transcript with the designation of "Q" rather than a letter grade; the hours are not included in the calculation of your GPR.

The deadline to submit a Q-drop form is the 50th class day of a fall or spring semester, the 15th class day of summer term or the 35th class day of a 10-week summer semester--the deadline is listed on the current Admissions and Records Calendar.

Q-drops in 1-hour courses are unlimited. Q-drops processed by the 12th class day receive a full refund in the fall and spring semesters; after that time, there is no refund. Check the current Course Schedule Book for refund rules and dates. See Student Rules for q-drops (section 1.16.2).

How do I Q-drop?

  1. Download the form from the Registrar's website.
  2. Bring a photo ID.
  3. Take the completed form and ID to your major advisor, who will process it and answer your questions about how this will affect your graduation plans and future schedule.
  4. If your advisor is unable to assist you, please come to Undergraduate Student Services, 202 Richard Coke Building.
  5. Check your schedule and degree audit in BONFIRE to make sure it went through.

Notice

Your major advisor cannot assist with requests for Q-drops beyond the limit of 3. If you have documented extenuating circumstances such as serious illness or other emergency, please see an advisor in Undergraduate Student Services to discuss the basis of your appeal. You will need to provide documentation of these extenuating circumstances before your appeal will be considered.
