Can A&M Fulfill the Vision?

By: Cassie Christopherson

Where do you see Texas A&M University in the next 10 years? 12 years? What visions would you have for this University? Would we be academically advanced? Athletically advanced? Well, if you have not thought about it, maybe you should because according to the leaders of Texas A&M, they see this University as one of the greatest. A University such as the University of Wisconsin, the University of California or the University of Minnesota. There vision is 2020.

Officials at A&M believe that by the year 2020, Texas A&M University will be in the Top 10 University listings along with the three mentioned above, in terms of higher education. To incorporate this vision we would continue to hire new faculty members while reducing class size which would give us, as the students, more one on one interaction with professors. It will increase the amount of class options that we can choose from when registration begins. Graduate student programs will become broader and will be strengthened and the chances to go on internships and study abroad programs will increase.

Sound like a good idea? Think it will work? Well the way that Texas A&M University is now, there is even a chance that it could be that and so much more before the year 2020. It will require a lot of hard work from not only the faculty but the students as well. We will be required to think more critically than ever, to explore the depths of our intelligence and expand or horizon when it comes to opportunities to learn something new. We will be dedicated to becoming the best students in the world and become known not only for the tradition at A&M but also our drive for academic excellence. It will give us a competitive edge when it comes to getting the top paying jobs against some of the world’s top students. Hopefully by the end of our educational careers here at Texas A&M University, we will not only have gained a greater understanding of ourselves and of our field of expertise but will also have gained a spirit of strength to go out and look for the most competitive jobs and know that we are just as good as any other student in the world.

Vision 2020 is not just a vision, it is a chance to become something that you never thought that you could be. It is a chance for you to strive for your goals and create goals that you never thought possible. It is a collaborated effort from all: students, faculty, former students and faculty, future students and the community. When all is said and done and we have reached our goal of becoming one of the best universities, we can look back and say, “I did it. I was apart of Vision 2020.”
