Student reporters will develop story ideas for their beat, complete feature story assignments and file the story with the Texas A&M Office of News & Information Services for marketing to targeted media sources.

Deadline: one story per month during each long semester

  • Fall 2009 - Sept., Oct., Nov.
  • Spring 2010 - Feb., Mar., Apr.

You will be paid $50 for each story filed with News & Information Services

Training/mentoring
1. Meetings during first three weeks of the program
  • General introduction and program expectations
  • Issue oriented: how to succeed as a journalist
  • Nut graphs and concepts: how to tell people your story is important and why they should read on

2. "Cookie hour" - monthly story sessions
  • Talk only about the positive aspects of the stories you just wrote
  • Other professional media will be invited to participate

Application deadlines:

  • For spring 2010 - deadline: Friday, November 6, 2009
