Student Reporter Project

The student reporter project is designed by the College of Liberal Arts and Journalism Studies as a way for journalism students to develop reporting skills while increasing the visibility of liberal arts in the media. The project is open to all liberal arts majors OR any major with a journalism minor.
Each semester we will select up to seven students who will work closely with mentor Dale Rice, former journalist for the Austin American-Statesman. Each student will be assigned to a beat and challenged to produce one feature story per month. Each month the College of Liberal Arts will publish In-Depth, the online news journal of the Student Reporter Project. In addition, the student reporters will be paid $50 for each story and file it with News & Information Services, where the story may be pitched to major media. Also, we have the training room in Coke 108 set up as a meeting place and collaborative work area.
