There’s always something exciting going on in the Department of Performance Studies. Even though the semester is starting to wind down, PERF is gearing up to enlighten and entertain you this month.
For instance, The Aggie Players are currently performing Kindertransport, written by Diane Samuels and directed by Susan Kelly, associate professor of theatre arts.
In the final nine months before World War II, nearly 10,000 unaccompanied Jewish children escaped from Germany on trains headed for the freedom of Britain. Most never saw their parents again. Kindertransport tells the story of Evelyn, a British woman in her fifties, and Eva, the nine-year-old German child she used to be. You still have time to catch this moving and important play, which runs until April 22. For ticket information, call 979.845.3355.
On April 19 & 24, you can enjoy music by several student ensembles in the department, featuring trombone, flute, woodwind, saxophone, and piano.
Isaac Bustos, assistant lecturer in music, will be featured in a faculty recital on April 26. Born in Managua, Nicaragua, Isaac Bustos began playing popular Latin-American music on the guitar by ear at age 11. Throughout his career, he has gained critical acclaim and is quickly becoming recognized as one of the top young guitarists of his generation. Join Bustos for an enjoyable evening of music as he performs with several other faculty members.
On April 28, you can catch Kathryn Woodard, assistant professor in music and performance studies, for her faculty recital. Woodard will perform pieces by the Turkish composer Adnan Saygun along with some Mozart and Shostakovich. Pianist Kathryn Woodard specializes in innovative programs that explore influences and connections across cultures. She has appeared as soloist and chamber musician at prominent venues throughout the U.S. and in Europe and Asia.
