A Proclamation
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert M. Gates holds a Ph.D. in Russian and Soviet history, evinced clearly stated values and goals as the 22nd President of Texas A&M University, and provided remarkable leadership which benefited faculty, staff and students in the College of Liberal Arts and across the University; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert M. Gates initiated a faculty reinvestment program that has enhanced the quality of teaching and scholarship within the College of Liberal Arts through the addition of 64 new faculty; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert M. Gates articulated a strong position for the University on faculty, staff and student diversity and followed statements with action; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert M. Gates actively encouraged the humanities at Texas A&M University through his participation in campus-wide humanities programs and especially his endorsement of the Arts and Humanities Building proposed by the College; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert M. Gates initiated measures to highlight undergraduate education as a priority at Texas A&M University and helped expand access to all students in the state of Texas and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert M. Gates created a program to provide tuition for graduate assistants which greatly enhanced the recruitment and retention of excellent graduate students,
Now, Therefore, the faculty, staff and students of the College of Liberal Arts hereby recognize the signal impact Dr. Robert M. Gates has had on the College and University during his presidency and express deep gratitude for his vision and leadership.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, and with strong concurrence, I, as representative for the faculty, staff, and students of the College of Liberal Arts, have hereunto set my hand this eighth day of December, in the year two thousand and six.
