How Do We Keep Knowing?
The Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research at Texas A&M University is pleased to announce a symposium, “Troubling Truth: How Do We Keep Knowing?” on the September 7-8, 2007, organized by the Glasscock Center’s 2006-2007 Internal Faculty Fellows. The event is a two-day symposium exploring how cultures know what they (think they) know.
The symposium begins September 7 at 1:30 p.m. when Texas A&M’s Diego von Vacano (political science) and Joan Wolf (women’s studies) will make presentations on their research. They will be followed at 3:45 p.m. by Eric Oliver, professor of political science, University of Chicago, speaking on “What is Fat?”
The second day’s events will start at 9:00 a.m. with presentations by Katherine Kelly (English) and Eric Rothenbuhler (communication) both from Texas A&M. To conclude the symposium, Lisa Gitelman, professor of media studies at The Catholic University of America will deliver her speech titled “Knowing by *.pdf” at 11:15 a.m.
All presentations will be held in the Glasscock Center Library, Melbern G. Glasscock Building, Room 311. This event is free and open to the public.
