Performance Studies Now Offering Master's Degree

In the fall of 2009, the Department of Performance Studies will begin accepting applications for its new master’s degree program in the discipline of performance studies. Classes for this program will start in fall 2010. Deadline for applying is Jan. 15, 2010.

The program focuses on the scholarly study of performance, including forms of performance such as music and verbal art, and is oriented to humanities scholarship, not the training of artists.

The program will help prepare Texas A&M students to pursue careers in a range of fields including:

  • Higher education
  • Museums and public history programs
  • Cultural advisors for media outlets, including commercial and noncommercial television, film and music production
  • Advisors for organizations specializing in international tourism
  • Administrators for public- and private-sector arts programming departments
  • Non-governmental organization work in cultural preservation
  • Culturally oriented publications
  • Secondary school post-certification work in humanities.
