Conference Connects Researchers of Economic Issues Affecting Hispanic and African American Communities
The Department of Economics and the College of Liberal Arts will sponsor a conference on economic issues affecting Hispanic and African-American communities, both in Texas and throughout the nation, from September 12-13, 2009 in room 1002 of the Allen Building.
Topics expected to be covered include labor market outcomes, human and social capital, immigration and international economic issues. Presenters will discuss present research on wages and employment, education outcomes and opportunities, health, immigration, remittances, foreign direct investment and economic development, among other topics.
The focus will be on sharing research results and interests, with the goal of furthering the network of researchers who analyze a broad set of economic issues important not only to Hispanics and African Americans, but also to Americans in general.
Further, the conference will allow participation from students who are interested in graduate studies in economics and related fields. The conference will be hosted by Rajiv Sarin, director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Economics at Texas A&M University; Marie T. Mora, president of the American Society of Hispanic Economists ; and Susan McElroy, president-elect of the National Economic Association.
