  • Anson F. Rainey, professor emeritus at Tel Aviv University, will present two lectures at Texas A&M – “Whence Came the Israelites and Their Language?” on Oct. 7th and “Merenptah: The Pharaoh Who Mentioned Israel” on Oct. 8th.

  • The lectures are co-sponsored by the Center for Maritime Archaeology & Conservation Lecture Series, the Nautical Archaeology Program, and the Department of Anthropology.

Anson Rainey to present two lectures at Texas A&M

Anson F. Rainey, professor emeritus at Tel Aviv University, will present two lectures at Texas A&M this month.

“Whence Came the Israelites and Their Language?” will take place on Oct. 7th at 6:30 p.m. in the Whitley Suite, room 1.106, at the Evans Library.

The second lecture, “Merenptah: The Pharaoh Who Mentioned Israel,” will take place on Oct. 8th at 12:00 p.m. in the Anthropology Building, room 130.

The lectures are co-sponsored by the Center for Maritime Archaeology & Conservation Lecture Series, the Nautical Archaeology Program, and the Department of Anthropology.

Professor Rainey is a leading biblical scholar. Since 2004, Raniey has taught as an adjunct professor at Bar Ilan University, Orot College and Jerusalem University College. Currently, he is working on the formatting and proofing of the 350 Amarna letters. The Introduction, Glossary and a chapter of collation notes will conclude the project. It is scheduled to be published in 2010.
