Chamber quartet enhakē to perform at Texas A&M University

The classical chamber ensemble enhakē will visit Texas A&M University on Thursday, Sept. 17 and Friday, Sept. 18, 2009 for a concert and residences.

Composed of musicians from South Korea and the U.S., enhakē includes Wonkak Kim (clarinet), M. Brent Williams (violin), Eun-Hee Park (piano) and Jayoung Kim (cello). In addition to performing in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the group has commissioned works by a range of prominent American composers, including Libby Larsen, and collaborated with Texas A&M composer-in-residence Peter Lieuwen.

“enhakē is an enormously exciting group,” said Harris Berger, associate professor of music and acting head of the Department of Performance Studies, “Richly creative and musical, these performers are clearly on the cutting edge of chamber music.”

Actively involved in community outreach and educational work, they have been an ensemble-in-residence for the Tallahassee Youth Orchestras, in their home base of Florida, and given a variety of master classes at schools and universities across the U.S. and abroad.

At the concert, enhakē will perform works by John Mackey, Walter Rabl, and Peter Schickele. The highlight of the evening will be a performance of Peter Lieuwen’s piece Gulfstream.
