12/18/07 - Economics department awards first annual graduate research award in econometrics

Jingping Gu and Deigo Escobari are the
first recipients of the STATA Graduate
Student Paper Contest
The Department of Economics is pleased to announce the inauguration of the STATA Graduate Student Paper Contest on econometrics research. STATA Corporation, a data analysis and statistical software company in College Station, is funding the two $1000 awards.

The two economics graduate student recipients of the award are Jingping Gu and Deigo Escobari. Gu was recognized for her paper titled “Estimating Average Treatment Effects with Discrete Covarities, ” which was written with Dennis Jansen , professor of economics. Gu’s research interests include macroeconomics, monetary economics, econometrics and international economics. Escobari’s winning paper is titled "Price Dispersion under Costly Capacity and Demand Uncertainty" and was written with Associate Professor Li Gan. Escobari’s research interests include industrial organization, econometrics and public economics.
