Internationally recognized poet, playwright, and screenwriter to present poetry reading

James Ragan, an internationally recognized poet, playwright, and screenwriter with special ties to Czech and Slovak history and culture, will present "Views of Central Europe: An Odyssey in Verse," on Oct. 28, 2009 from 7-8:30 p.m. in HECC 209. Admission is free.

Ragan will read from The Hunger Wall, Too Long a Solitude and other books. This poetry reading will center on his cultural roots and personal accounts ranging from witnessing the Russian invasion of Prague (1968) and the Havel years, to his reading in 1985 for Gorbachev (with Bob Dylan and Seamus Heaney), to the present dynamics of "Presidential" reading performances (for Havel and Klaus) during the post-communist years.

This event is sponsored by the CEFT William J. Hlavinka Czech Fellowship in the Department of English.
