06/18/08 - Liberal Arts announces administrative changes

Patricia Hurley appointed interim
associate dean; Larry Oliver serves
dual role of associate dean for
diversity and interim head of
economics.

Dean Charles A. Johnson has announced that Patricia A. Hurley, current department head of political science, has been appointed interim associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts. This follows the appointment of Larry Oliver, current associate dean, to the position of interim department head of economics this past February.

As interim associate dean, Hurley’s major responsibilities will include faculty development and graduate programs. The faculty development area includes oversight of faculty recruitment, annual review processes, and promotion and tenure considerations. The graduate program area includes the enhancement of graduate education, representation of the college in university-wide discussions of graduate matters, and management of graduate funds in the college.

“Dr. Hurley brings to this position a record of outstanding scholarship as professor of political science and exceptional service as department head of political science for the past seven years,” said Dean Johnson.

Oliver will continue to serve the college in the important area of diversity, where he has made significant contributions. Hence, for the coming year, he will serve the dual role of associate dean for diversity and interim head of economics.

“The college and university have benefited tremendously from Dr. Oliver’s leadership and commitment for the past several years,” said Dean Johnson.

In spring 2009 the college will conduct a formal search for an associate dean with similar areas of responsibility.
