04/18/08 - Psych Majors Rout Texas, Trinity In Brain Bowl

A team of Texas A&M University undergraduate psychology majors captured the championship in the 11th Annual Brain Bowl, the premier event held at the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio for Brain Awareness Week.

Texas A&M beat teams from the University of Texas at Austin and Trinity University at the competition, which was sponsored by the Department of Pharmacology's Center for Biomedical Neuroscience.

The Brain Bowl is a neuroscience quiz show, modeled after the former University Challenge, in which three teams of undergraduates from colleges and universities across Texas compete for prizes and the coveted Brain Bowl trophy. As the questions increase in difficulty, the number of points awarded for guessing correctly increases as well, organizers explained.

In this year’s event, the Texas A&M team scored 694 points, while UT scored 410 points and Trinity scored 295 points.

The Texas A&M team was coached by Professor Jennifer Bizon. Team members include Becca Simmons (sophomore), Juliana McElroy (senior), Ryan Gilbert (senior), Alex Wyckoff (senior) and Jeff Mayse (junior).
