Richard L. Street has won
the Lewis Donohew Award.
Richard L. Street, Jr., head of the Department of Communication, has won the Lewis Donohew Outstanding Scholar in Health Communication Award. The award, presented by the University of Kentucky, recognizes outstanding research contributions in health communication made during a two year span.

Street will receive his award and give his research presentation on Saturday, April 19 at the 2008 Kentucky Conference on Health Communication.

Street received his Ph.D. in communication from the University of Texas at Austin. Over the past 20 years he has developed an extensive program of research examining health care provider-patient communication and strategies for increasing patient involvement in care. In 2003, Street was named Outstanding Health Communication Scholar by both the National Communication Association and International Communication Association.

The award was established in honor of Lewis Donohew, Professor Emeritus at the University of Kentucky, in 1998. Donohew was instrumental in bringing more than $30 million in federal funding to the University of Kentucky and played a part in establishing an internationally renowned health communication program.
