The Department of Sociology is among the
largest sociology programs in the country. Its nearly 30 graduate
faculty have expertise in a wide range of areas and publish their
research and scholarship with top academic presses and in leading
scientific journals. Department faculty have received numerous awards
and honors and have served as presidents of national and regional
professional associations and as editors and associate editors of
leading journals in the discipline. The program of more than 60
full-time students has the advantages that come with large size. At the
same time, with nearly 30 graduate faculty, the student-faculty ratio
of about 2:1 is highly favorable. Thus, students have excellent
opporutnities to assist faculty on research projects and develop their
own research programs under close faculty supervision.
