The Department of Political Science is one of the largest departments in the College, with approximately 1,000 undergraduate majors, 60 graduate students, and a faculty of more than 50 professors. The department began granting Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in 1969, the Bachelor of Science degree in 1981, and doctoral degrees in 1988. By 2005 the PhD program was ranked 22nd overall, 8th among public institutions, and 17th in the field of American Politics by U.S. News and World Report. The faculty, which publishes regularly in the discipline’s top journals, is routinely recognized in surveys of research productivity. Currently, the department is editorial home to the American Journal of Political Science and Presidential Studies Quarterly. Since 1997 the department has been located in the Allen Building, adjacent to the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum.
