College Facts

The College of Liberal Arts has emerged as a cornerstone of Texas A&M University, one of the largest research universities in the nation. The College fields the largest collegiate faculty on campus and graduates more undergraduates than any other college on campus. Liberal Arts provides more than 25 percent of the undergraduate instruction at Texas A&M since all students will take at least 27 hours in the social sciences, humanities, and arts that are at the core of a college education. The College of Liberal Arts encourages academic excellence through faculty research and scholarship that strengthens and expands our knowledge of the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and performance studies. It offers curricula designed to broaden horizons and enrich the quality of life, as well as help produce informed and responsible citizens.

Behavioral Neuroscience Program (psychology) — addresses the loss and recovery of function associated with aging, neurodegenerative disease and neural injury

Center for Maritime Archaeology and Conservation – facilitates coordination of the nautical archaeology program’s innovative underwater research and conservation efforts

Center for the Study of the First Americans (anthropology) — only facility in the nation dedicated to answering the questions surrounding man’s arrival to the North and South American continents

China Archive Survey and Education – seeks to build a robust online data collection of quantitative data on China and China-U.S. relations

Digital Humanities — involves the Glasscock Center, Center for the Study of Digital Libraries, and the Texas A&M University Libraries and applies information technology to scholarly activities in the humanities by developing innovative computer tools, digital collections, and hypertext archives

Laboratory for Study of Social Deviance (sociology) – conducts large-scale studies of the causes and consequences of drug abuse and other deviant adaptations to stress

Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research — one of a select few humanities centers at a public university supported by a privately funded endowment

Mexican American U.S. Latino Research Center — focuses on the social, cultural, economic, health, political, educational, and demographic issues facing Latino/a and Mexican American citizens of Texas and the nation

Equity, Representation,a dn Governance Project (political science) - includes the Carlos Cantu Hispanic Education and Opportunity Endowment and the Texas Educational Excellence Project and addresses a range of public administration issues, especially those involving educational experiences of minority students

Public Policy Research Institute — collects and analyzes data dealing with health, crime and education for government decision makers

Race and Ethnic Studies Institute — support research and scholarship in various dimensions of social life including racial and ethnic relations, group differences in social outcomes, and social demography of racial and ethnic populations
