Cornerstone College
The Liberal Arts - A Cornerstone College at Texas A&M University
The College of Liberal Arts is one of the cornerstones at Texas A&M University. As a cornerstone, a liberal arts education impacts all Texas A&M students and is the foundation of a great university.
We are a cornerstone for undergraduate education:
- All students at Texas A&M take at least nine hours in the social sciences, humanities, and arts that are at the core of a college education. Most students take even more such courses as electives. These courses provide essential building blocks for an outstanding undergraduate education. The quality of those courses fundamentally affects the quality of the degree the students receive as they walk across the stage upon graduation.
- Teaching more than 300,000 semester credit hours annually, Liberal Arts provides over 25 percent of the instruction at Texas A&M - more than any single college in the University.
- Graduating over 1300 students annually with Bachelors degrees, Liberal Arts accounts for approximately one of every five undergraduate degrees from Texas A&M.
We are a cornerstone for research and graduate studies:
- Basic research in the social sciences and humanities provide the basis for scholarship in business, medicine, public policy, and other applied or professional areas.
- The liberal arts is a collaborator for research in professional fields to provide methodological tools for researchers, theories to apply in different settings, and contexts for outstanding human behavior - past and present.
- Bringing in seven to eight million dollars in research and contract support to campus, liberal arts researchers contribute to Texas A&M University's presence as a full-fledged research university.
We are a cornerstone for internationalization and diversity:
- The liberal arts provides numerous study abroad programs for all students at Texas A&M.
- The liberal arts fosters an understanding of different cultures, different times, different perspectives.
- Liberal arts faculty and students collaborate worldwide with researchers in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and the performing arts.
